There's more to publishing than meets the screen....

  1. I read this Op-Ed on nytimes.com Sunday, and I thought "this guy is flogging the wrong horse". I don't understand why he thinks that e-books aren't, or won't be, edited. Whether or not a book is published on dead trees or a silicon screen is entirely irrelevant to the editing and publishing process. Every book and magazine I've bought and downloaded to my Kindle has been professionally edited.

I suspect his real concern is that he and his fellow publishers are losing their monopoly (and associated profit margins). Up until quite recently the only people who published books were those who owned printing presses and publishing companies. These publishing plants made them the gatekeepers, and gave them great power over the publishing process. That is no longer the case. This Op-Ed has a taste of sour grapes...JR
